Teaching & tutoring

In my twenties I worked as a teacher in a wide variety of settings, from prisons to schools to physical rehabilitation settings, teaching English, music and maths up to GCSE level.

I've worked in marketing, digital marketing and online business, on the agency side, freelance and client side, for everything from small companies to FTSE businesses, in my thirties. Get in touch about any work like this.

Web development

Most of my experience is in PHP and MySQL, though more recently I've moved on to Next, JavaScript and Postgres. With AI assisted tools doing a lot of the heavy lifting these days, I'm becoming more of a generalist, comfortable turning my hand to most things and learning as I go.

Operations & small business management

I spent fifteen years running a company, mostly completely remotely, with both salaried staff and freelance contractors. I've got a wide range of experience in operations. Get in touch about any work like this.

Piano tuning

I don't hold any qualifications, but I've been tuning my own pianos for ten years and I'm a pretty decent tuner. I can usually get a piano to around 95% in a reasonably short time, though that last 5% isn't guaranteed. This is probably best suited to a family piano rather than a professional setting, but get in touch and we can have a chat.

Gardening

I really enjoy gardening and I'm happy to help, quite possibly for free, in the local area. I do have a bit of a bad back though, so there's a limit to the kinds of jobs I can take on. Get in touch and we can have a chat.

Volunteering

I've got a long history of volunteering in various areas. I tend to avoid long term commitments these days, which limits things somewhat, but I'm always interested in ad hoc opportunities to do interesting work for free.

Cognitive rehabilitation support

Experience working with adults and kids with special needs, including adults recovering cognitive function after traumatic brain injury.

Writing & research

Research and writing is a bit of a hobby of mine. I can't claim any paid experience of it, but I'm happy to help with books, articles, whatever it is.
